• Iao Valley State Park

Iao Valley State Park is located above Central Maui's Wailuku Town. This 10 acre park is crowned by an ancient 2,250 foot rock known as the Iao Needle. For hundreds of years, Iao Valley was the ancient burial site for many Hawaiian Chiefs, and was also where Kamehameha the Great fought local Chiefs to unite the Hawaiian Islands. The entrance to Iao Valley contains Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens, which honors the many cultures that have immigrated to Maui with mini "villages." Entrance to the Park is free.
