Maui Golf: Trekking the Hills at the Mercedes-Benz - Part 2

The beautiful Plantation Course runs steeply uphill from the third to the fifth hole. You will need to hike quickly to keep up with the action. Bring a bottle of water! You'll be glad you did when you reach the top. From the fifth to the sixth hole, be prepared to follow a wide cart path into a wooded ravine, and then up again. The players are driven in vans through this section – so expect to be left behind. With luck, you will make up the distance on the downhill run.

Maui Family Vacations

It's another scamper between the 9th and 10th. The path runs past the clubhouse and through a tunnel. Again, the players ride. Despite this, it wouldn't be hard keeping up, except that spectators must wait until the way is clear. So it will take some fast walking to catch up again!

Tired yet? That's okay, because you can take a break while the players descend to the 12th. But when they return, you will face your biggest challenge of the day: the climb to the 16th. Move fast! Because of course you can only move forward when the officials allow it. Your reward for this sustained effort? Fantastic views and a limited crowd at the 16th and 17th holes. The irony? All your efforts will not earn you a seat in the grandstand. By the time you reach the 18th, it will be standing room only for the finish. But look at it this way – if you're really lucky (it happened in 2006!) there will be a playoff, and you will get to sprint again to the top of the hill, to witness the best of Maui golf one more time.
