Hi All,

I called James Redfield's lawyer today(the 23rd) concerning the e-mail he sent me pertaining to copyright infringement issues. It turned out that his concerns were not so much with copyright infringement issues as with personal liability issues and misquotes of JR. He was concerned that it looked like JR was personally backing the Peru trips and that opened him for liability in case someone was injured on one of these trips. He was also concerned that I had one line that said that James Redfield considered New Frontier Magazine "one of the best". This line was sent to me by the folks at NFM and I just put it on the site as a favor to them.

To make a long story short the upshot is that I have stuck a notice saying "James Redfield has no interest or affiliation with this website" at the top of the main page and I have removed his name from the link to New Frontier Magazine. I am going to be able to keep the book jacket on the site for some minimal fee(like $10 a year). The lawyer is going to send me a license for this.

I told the lawyer that I am going to put a notice on the page and this list that I was asked to do this by JR's lawyer and I leave it up to JR to explain how these values fit in with a world based on spiritual and humanistic values like JR speaks of. He told me that he would speak to JR and they would issue some sort of joint statement that he would get back to me about. I have not yet put this comment on TCP home page in lieu of receiving JR's remarks.

I am glad to get this resolved but I feel disappointed that JR has let his attorney handle his affairs in a way that does seem all that different from old world values of the past. I hope that someday he can speak for himself(perhaps in this joint statement yet to come - but I doubt it!) and we can truly see how he feels about handling these kinds of issues in the world yet to come.

On the bright side, it is nice to finally have a line of communication of any kind open to JR. Many, many people have asked about communicating with him in the year and a half that the site has been in existence. The lawyer also told me that the movie was going to be directed by one of the most "spiritual" directors in the industry. Interpret this as you will!
