Lanai, The Private Isle

Crossing the Au'Au Channel, we begin our circumnavigation at Shipwreck Beach exploring rusting hulks dating back to WWII. Down the wind-swept coast where miles of isolated white sand beach beckon us ashore for exploration and play.

Continuing around to the leeward side hang on as we skim within feet of tall cliffs and rock outcrops. Numerous coves offer splendid snorkeling where marine creature of all types and size can be found. The unspoiled reefs and clear waters of Lanai's hidden side is home to graceful rays, colorful and abundant reef fish, elusive turtles, shy octopus and moray eels, and many, many more fascinating inhabitants.

Any one of these coves also provides a marvelous setting for lunch. While relaxing take in a little history and legends of the island. From here its more coastal exploration past burial caves and ancient Hawaiian ruins. Playful dolphin often escort us as we head back to Maui.
