This young-adult novel was written for a middle school audience. Set in the story world of Deception Well, in a timeframe several years after the events in the original novel, it features a young "ado" (adolescent) named Skye Object. Skye was discovered as a baby, adrift in an interstellar "life boat." Now fourteen, what little she knows of her origin is thrown into doubt by the discovery of an alien plague quickening to life within her cells. It's germ warfare, and Skye has become a weapon of the enemy, carrying a disease that threatens the lives of everyone she knows. Her quest to heal herself, and to discover the truth about her beginnings, takes her on a far-reaching adventure from the wilderness world of Deception Well to the forbidden orbital facilities high above the planet's surface.
