MAUI RECYCLING GROUP
CONSTRUCTION SITE
RECYCLING PROJECT

From late 1998 to mid-1999 the Maui Recycling Group, in partnership with Smith Development of Makawao and Dilloway Construction Company of Wailuku, conducted Maui's first construction site recycling project.  The objective of the project, which was funded by a grant from the County of Maui Community Recycling Grants Program, was to demonstrate the viability of construction site recycling on Maui.

The project was successful in almost every regard, and documented a 35% diversion of materials from landfill disposal as well as a 20% reduction in hauling costs.

For a detailed overview of the project please read our Executive Summary and Acknowledgements.

The project also resulted in production of a Handbook For Construction Site Recycling, a step-by-step guide for developers, contractors and builders interested in implementing construction site recycling programs.  This document is available online or in a printed version.
