Stephanie is a friend of mine who is originally from the island of Lanai. She is a part of our regular group that gets together every Friday after work. I can personally attest to her abilities as a creator of fine local style cuisine.
Waimaka was a very special person who graced the daily traffic on the newsgroup, alt.culture.hawaii. I had saved a recipe he posted for malasadas, intending to ask him if I could use it on this page. Unfortunately, Waimaka passed away unexpectedly. There is no way to fully overcome the loss, but I still smile a little each time I read his recipe. So, in that spirit, I include it here.
