Who is...

The Makule Guy?

Good question...

Picture of some old dude Well, actually, I'm the Makule Guy. You see, makule is the Hawaiian word for "old" and I certainly resemble that remark. My real name is Bill Medeiros and I'm your average Portuguese net-junkie, raconteur and all-around nice guy. I was born and raised on Maui in the Hawaiian Islands. I graduated (many years ago) from Lahainaluna High School (the oldest school west of the Rockies, established in 1831). I also attended Maui Community College and got my degree in Psychology from Southern Oregon State College (in Ashland, Oregon). I won't even mention what I do for a living; the web is my form of relaxation and the last thing I want to think about is work.

The photograph is compliments Neal Oribio, also known as Pueo. The picture was taken at first alt.culture.hawaii picnic here on Maui. If you want to learn more about the folks in alt.culture.hawaii, take a spin over to Pueo's Lurker Home Page.

Am I the only "Makule" person on the net? No, not hardly. I recently got e-mail from a net denizen called "the Makule Fool" (Eh, howzit, Mike!). I plan to set up a link to his home page soon. We makule types have to stick together...

Now, since this page is about me (and nobody ever reads bios anyway, right?), let me list a few things about myself:

Favorite authors:

  • George MacDonald Fraser. I'm a huge Flashman Fan. If you are interested in the exploits of Sir Harry Paget Flashman, then check out the Sandwich Islands Chapter of the Royal Flashman Society.

  • Kinky Friedman. Country singer/songwriter (and leader of the Texas Jewboys) turned mystery writer. The Kinkster is a cigar-smokin' iconoclast operating well beyond the bounds of political correctness.

Favorite vices:

  • Cigars. Check out the exploits of the Hawaii Internet Cigar Group.

  • Beer. Lots of it. Especially the stuff with character.

  • Food. Lots of it. Is there a pattern here? Especially just about any kind of ethnic food. Mexican, Italian, Greek, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and, of course, Portuguese.

  • The Internet. Can't get enough of it. But hey, you must be the same. You're reading this aren't you? (Just kidding...)

The stupidest thing I've done this year:

  • Failed to back up my system before my hard drive crashed (twice). OK, that's a fairly common occurence, but hey, it's been a pretty good year.
