Sharing the same spirit that
embodies the Makena Resort, the South Course also
provides the serenity and tranquility many golfers are
looking for. Its not to say that the course
doesnt provide quite a measure for golfers of every
level. It certainly does. But its remote setting
and well-spaced tee times make the South Course a
favorite of many Maui golfers.
Its no wonder. Nestled between a view of the Puu Olai cinder cone to the west and the clubhouse with the Ulupalakua Ranch in the background on the east, the tenth hole is a long 502 yards. Golfers like it
because they can really let the shaft off on the
drive. Long hitters can reach the green in two, or the
hole may be played by laying up for an easy pitch
shot, says a Makena golf professional.
It's a dogleg right leading to a two-tiered green, sloping away from the player. The best tee shot for this hole is right center. After that, our golf pro suggests you know exactly where the pin is set since the entry to the green slopes away from the player. The proximity to the
ocean is exactly why this course is so special. Besides
having two oceanfront holes, numbers fifteen and sixteen,
the South Course also affords an excellent view of
humpback whales that visit here each winter. And since
they keep coming back year after year, they must be on to
something good! For more information or to make reservations, use our on-line tee-time system or send an email message. |
