TIME, INEXORABLE THIEF

Perched precariously
upon the bridge
leading from yesterday,
recoiling from
the ever widening maw,
still your voice grows
increasingly silent,
your glorious face
fades from memory,
and I weep anew
with the loss.

Death, victorious conqueror
of one and all,
furtively stole you fast
and far away
and the woman
in my mirror
suddenly reflects
as old and gray
while you now remain
forever younger.

SERENDIPITY

In a cottage in the Cotswolds
where I came to write alone
amidst the ancient buildings
made of honey coloured stone
in a village from a yesteryear
an unexpected thrill was near
a poet lives next door!

GYPSY

The cafe au lait lover caresses
with his sugar cane smile and
down, down, down I'm drawn
into the sweet liquid depths
of his melted chocolate eyes.
His gentle touch envelopes me
in a cocoon of gossamer silk.

Time moves with rapid feet
and years flit swiftly by.
Our lives, no longer parallel,
march on inexorably...
yet the mystical connection,
fragile as a spider's web,
remains eternally unbroken.

OLD LOVES

Old loves haunt the nights
memories grip like a vice
youthful beauty squandered
without thought of the morrow
bubbling laughter and
rampant desire replaced
by the ache of aging bones
only the heart remains
young and vulnerable.
