Jackie Pias Carlin has taught art, handpainted fabrics, creative drama, and cooking prior to writing.  She is a graduate of the University of Hawaii BA/LIBARTS focus on Human Relations in Organizations. She received her Masters in English from Middlebury College/Bread Loaf School of English in Oxford, England in 2004.  She travels, cooks, gardens, swims, cleans her Kihei house, and writes when she is not teaching.  Her past experiences include nightclub torch singer, candlemaker, actress, fine artist, and designer of handpainted fabrics for major hotels and private residences.  She is one of the artists featured in Artists of Maui published by Wertz Publishing 1986. Her book, Spirit of the Village A Maui Memoir, is due in 2006.
