David Dorn - Instructor Profile

 David is Australian born and Maui based. An all-round waterman, David has been a competitive windsurfer and kiteboarder, a retailer, manufacturer, repairer and designer, promoter and innovator in the watersports industry. David's twenty-year career in watersports training has spanned the globe and has encompassed a variety of watersports including: Windsurfing, Surfing, Sailing, Parasailing, and Water-skiing. David created Action Sports Maui from his ten-year vision of bringing the very best watermen in each field together to create an Advanced Water-sports Training Center that caters to the highest levels of each sport. Since moving to Maui full time 10 years ago, David has become very active in all levels of the watersports community. He has sponsored Community children’s windsurfing and surfing programs. He has been active in the preservation of water access for windsurfers and has successfully worked with the FAA to restore maintain kitesurfing access on the north shore. David's total dedication to the ultimate watersports lifestyle is a lifelong commitment. David has published three books on watersports instruction and has produced several training videos.

Master Windsurfing Instructor (The instructor's instructor) is a level of certification attained by very few. David Dorn was one of the three most highly qualified Windsurfing Instructors in the Australian Certification System. David was instrumental in the re-creation of the windsurfing teaching system in Australia.
Certified Surfing Coach David became a Certified Surfing Coach with the (A.S.P.) Australia’s professional surfing association for instruction. David has been teaching surfing on Maui for over eight years and is responsible for the Safe Surfing system implemented by Action Sports and other Hawaiian surf schools.
Windsurfing Instructor Trainer David is a U.S.Sailing Certified windsurfing Instructor and trained to become a Windsurfing Instructor Trainer, under the U.S. Sailing instructional system. He is running regular Windsurfing Instructor Certification courses as well as incorporating the latest techniques into the Action Sports windsurfing program.
Certified Kitesurfing Instructor A Certified Kitesurfing Instructor under the KISS Kitesurfing system since 1998. A Certified Kiteboard Instructor with the Wipika System since 2001, A certified Kiteboard Instructor with the IKO since 2003, KITES Instructor since 2004, training for certification under the PASA teaching System.
Kitesurfing Instructor Trainer David was one of the first kitesurfing teachers on Maui. He later became a Certified Kitesurfing Instructor under the KISS Kitesurfing system. Later he graduated to Kitesurfing Instructor Trainer, and has been running kitesurfing instructor courses on Maui for over six years. David is now the Director of the KISS Kitesurfing Instructor Training Center on Maui.

Lessons: David teaches all levels of kiteboarding, surfing and windsurfing. He is refining advances in kiteboarding instruction and kiteboard R&D. David teaches advanced group clinics, and Instructor Training clinics. He is also available for private instruction & coaching by appointment.
