Our Secret Picnic Spot

My wife Gene and I have found a very, beautiful, private area near our Kapalua Ridge 1822 which has become our favorite place for a picnic by the ocean. The following pictures show the area and provide directions on finding the area. This is a secret we share only with you, and you only, please don't tell anyone else about it (smile).

Above is a map that shows the location of our Kapalua Ridge 1822 condo, the Ridge Office, the Kumulani Church parking lot, Fleming Beach Park and our Secret Picnic Area. The first part of a successful picnic starts with picking up supplies. Our favorite is to stop by the Star Market on Highway 30 or the Napili Shopping Plaza ( shown above), on the way to Kapalua, and pick up the "essentials". These include a good bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon Wine, assorted selections of Deli Cheese, French Baguette bread or Chips, Calamata Olives, and what ever else appeals to your tastes as you explore the Supermarket. Do not consider calories as you make these important selections; after all you're on vacation.

You have probably see this photo before, it shows that the parking for your car is very close to the front door of our Kapalua Ridge 1822. Once you have gathered all the "essentials" as well as beach towels from the condo and perhaps some sun tan oil, hop in your car and head back down towards the Kapalua Ridge Office and turn right. Proceed to the first Stop Sign and cross the road to the Kumulani Church.

... With "essentials" in hand proceed towards the ocean, following along the right hand side of the Kapalua Bay Golf course towards Fleming Beach.

.... Just before you get to the sand beach area, you will come to this ancient lava flow. Head towards the trees seen in the background.

.... You will soon come to natural rock area shaded (in late morning) by the surrounding Iron Wood trees. This is where you spread the beach towels.

.... This is a closer view of the area. The surrounding lava forms a natural back rest. The fallen leaves (needles) of the Iron Wood trees form a soft floor.

... This is a photo of the partial view you will see from the picnic area. To the far right is Fleming Beach which fronts the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and on the far left and over (way over) the horizon is Northern California. If for some reason, you forgot the "essentials" you can always walk over to the Ritz-Carlton beach-front pavilion for a great, fairly economical, lunch. They serve an assortment of beers and a very nice selection of pupus (horsd'oeuvres) and hamburgers. Please return the beach towels to the condo.... mahalo. (and please keep our secret)
