Four thousand feet above the Blue Pacific Ocean lies Kilauea Volcano, ancient home of the Hawaiian fire goddess Pele. Amidst the foggy mists, rain and sunshine on the slopes of this giant Active Volcano Mountain you will experience the most wonderfully magical place in all of Hawaii...where the earth is born. Volcano Village is an upland Hawaiian natural rainforest, with large, sheltering trees, easy walking distance to Volcano Village's stores and restaurants, the private fern forest cottage/studio offer cozy, tranquility, affordable bed and accommodations within a five-minute drive to the Hawaii Volcano National Park, where you can hike, bike, picnic, and golf, explore the world's only "drive-in" volcano, sip locally made wines, and enjoy the cool climate at about 3500 feet in elevation.
My husband and I found Volcano Village about 15 years ago. It was our dream to purchase property there, and 10 years ago we did just that. We built a small magical little cabin. For many years we enjoyed it ourselves from time to time, and on occasion our friends and family would go and stay at the cabin. Each time we always heard the same things... How beautiful it was, how inspiring it felt, and how they just never wanted to leave. So 2 years ago we put it on the market as a vacation rental.
The cabin is a huge cabin/studio, it offers a very large bathroom with a soak
tub for two, a stand up shower, full washer & dryer, full size kitchen, dining
area, sitting room with a view of the forest and a gorgeous gas fireplace. We
just (2007) put in a brand NEW queen size pillow top mattress that makes you
fill like you are really sleeping in the clouds and though there is a large
picture window just above the bed so as you lay there you can keep your eyes on
the Big Dipper.
The Volcano Cottage comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen, living room, gas burning fireplace, TV/VCR/ Dish Network, washer/dryer and a phone, a honeymooners delight! You will see towering Prehistoric tree fern forests, explore ancient lava tunnels & caves, and visit steaming volcanic vents where you'll feel the very breath of the earth.
