Ekena - "Just one glance at the 360 degree view, and you can see why hosts Robin and Gaylord gave up their careers on the mainland and moved here. This 8 1/2-acre piece of paradise in rural Hana, Maui boasts ocean and rain-forest views; the floor-to-ceiling glass doors in the spacious Hawaiian-style pole house bring the outside in. The elegant two-story home is exquisitely furnished, from the comfortable U-shaped couch that invites you to relax and take in the view to the top-of-the-line mattress on the king bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with every high-tech convenience you can imagine (guests have made complete holiday meals here). Only one floor (and one two-bedroom unit) is rented at any one time to ensure privacy. The grounds are impeccably groomed and dotted with tropical plants and fruit trees. Hiking trails into the rain forest start right on the property, and beaches and waterfalls are just minutes away. Robin places fresh flowers in every room and makes sure you're comfortable; after that, she's available to answer questions, but she also respects your privacy."

Fodor's Choice * - "This idyllic setting (Ekena means Garden of Eden in Hawaiian) is full of tropical fruit trees and exotic flowers, and it sits on a hillside near the town of Hana, Maui with a commanding view of sea and land. There are two houses, each with a fully equipped kitchen and all necessities. Jasmine, the smaller of the two, is suited to parties of two or four. The main house, Sea Breeze, is huge (2,600 square ft), with two large master suites, but the owners restrict its occupancy to a maximum of four people. In order to ensure privacy, they also rent to only one party at a time. There's a minimum stay of three days, and children under 14 are not allowed."

TripAdvisor - "Buy a bottle of fine cabernet or some high-quality Japanese tea while you’re driving through Pai'a because that’s what you’ll want to drink when you arrive at Ekena! At least that was our immediate response – but we only had cranberry juice with us (which we nonetheless poured into wine glasses)! The views are breathtaking and the interior design is elegant. The feels is open, uplifting, and serene. This place is not for kids. Not until they accomplish something substantial in life.”
