Meet Your Teachers
 Dr. Vicki Draeger received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, her Master's degree in Language Arts, and her undergraduate degree in secondary education with a major in English, Speech, and Drama. She is certified by the American Montessori Society, having attended the St. Nicholas Montessori Teacher Training Center in London, England as well as the Center for Montessori Teacher Education at the College of New Rochelle in New York. Dr. Draeger has taught in the Masters in Education program at Chaminade University on O'ahu, as well as at Eckerd College in Florida. She has been a guest lecturer at Notre Dame Seichen University in Okayama, Japan. Dr. Draeger has founded and administered Christy Park Montessori Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, Countryside Montessori and Country Day Academy in Largo, Florida. She has served as Head of School for Montessori of Maui, and start-up consultant for Voyager Public Charter School on O'ahu. Dr. Draeger is the author of  “Kids, Quarks, and Quanta: An Integrated Thematic Unit to Introduce Quantum Mechanics in Middle School.” In addition to founding and administrating Clearview, Dr. Draeger teaches Latin, Literature and Religious Studies at the school.
 Ms. Victoria (Tori) Bence has been teaching at the middle school level for the past fourteen years, five at Country Day Academy in Largo, Florida and eleven at Clearview. She is a graduate of Pinellas Technical and Vocational Institute, and did additional study at Eckerd College. She is presently working toward A+ certification in computers and will soon begin work on her Master's in Computer Science. She is also interested in filmmaking, and has received the Akaku Studio Producer certification as well as certification from the Dov S.S. Simens' Film Director Seminar. Ms. Bence has been an assisting presenter at the American Association of Physics Teachers and is a member of the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics. She teaches Math, Science, and Technology at Clearview.

Clearview is fortunate to have professional members of the community to support our curriculum.
Music:
Local professional pianist and keyboardist, Fulton Tashombe, is Clearview's music instructor. In addition to his music classes, Fulton directed the music for our play, America Live.
Fitness:
Patricia Hatch of Seaside Fitness has been doing water aerobics with the Clearview students for the past six years. For the 2004-2005 school year students were introduced to martial arts with their instructor Phil Swatek.
Fine Arts:
Pamela Hayes, prominent Maui watercolor artist, has taught both watercolor and acrylics with the students. In addition, through a partnership with the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, we were able to have Neida Bangerter come to the school and teach lessons on landscape painting. The student's artwork will be on display at the Maui Mayor's Office. For the 2004-2005 school year, Dr. Greg Trombly, former elementary school principal from New York and respected pastel artist was at Clearview helping students learn to create some wonderful art using this exciting medium.
Drama:
Donna Breeden of the Maui Academy of Performing Arts has helped us prepare some of our recent performances. Past plays include: Pandora, Alice in Wonderland, America Live and Santa Sings the Blues.
Spinning and Weaving:
As part of our Farm and Fiberworks Project, students have been learning spinning and weaving. Caroline Killhour started the girls on hand spindles and then progressed to spinning wheels. Chris Switzer of Switzer-Land Farm in Colorado has been teaching the girls to weave.
Guest Lecturers for 2004/2005:
GUEST PRESENTER SERIES FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS FREE TO HOMESCHOOLERS
Clearview Christian Girls' Middle School in Pukalani is hosting a series of outstanding guest presenters at the school this coming year. There will be a different topic offered by a new presenter each month.
In September, Dr. Gail Bellamy will be arriving from Cleveland, Ohio to talk about food and it's relationship to culture. Dr. Bellamy has more than 20 years' experience as Managing Editor and Food Editor of Restaurant Hospitality, a national magazine for the restaurant industry. Besides being a Certified Culinary Professional, she has contributed to a half-dozen books in the food and hospitality fields, and is the author of three books. Dr. Bellamy's poetry has appeared in more than 70 publications. Her presentation is sure to include some tasty snacks!
In October, Dr. Kathleen Froese will be at Clearview presenting on ecology and our relationship to the earth. Coming from Albuquerque, New Mexico, she will be including the customs of the pueblo Indians.
December brings Dr. Ann Lee. Dr. Lee's Ph.D. is in Theology and Ethics, and she will be using the books, Gathering Blue, and The Giver, by award winning novelist Lois Lowry, as a springboard for her presentation about awareness and paying attention.
In January, we are honored to have Dr. Kevin Sharpe. Dr. Sharpe has his Ph. D. from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, in Religious Studies as well as a Ph. D. in Mathematics from La Trobe University in Australia. Dr. Sharpe and his wife, Dr. Leslie Van Geller, will present the role of story in human development and society. They will discuss and show photos of their work in prehistoric finger flutings as a means for exploring the way in which early Homo sapiens sapiens left remnants of their stories on the walls of limestone caves in Australia and France.

 For March and part of April, Dr. John Tucker of Georgia will be doing lectures on astronomy geared at helping middle school students understand the wonders of the heavens.
Clearview would like to make these free lectures available to home schooling parents with middle school students. Although Clearview is a girls' school, both boys and girls and their parents are invited to attend. In order to keep the lectures small and personal, attendance will be limited. Anyone wishing more information, or wanting to register for one or more of the lectures should call the school office at 876-0123 and ask for Janis.
