• Setting: beachfront, resort community
• Weather: Hot, humid, sunny year-round, rare downpours
• Travel times:

50 minutes to Kahului Airport

1 minute to the beach

2 hours 30 minutes to Haleakala National Park

2 hours 30 minutes to Hana

• Pros: Outstanding beaches and views, resort amenities, upscale restaurants, shops, golf, and entertainment within walking distance
• Cons: Pricy, busy
• Best For: Sun-worshippers, golfers, couples or families who want to brag to the folks back home, Spring breakers

Kahana, Mahinahina, Honokowai, Napili

• Setting: beachfront, suburban
• Weather: Hot, humid, sunny year-round, rare downpours

1 hour to Kahului Airport

• Pros: Some good beaches and views, limited restaurants and shops within walking distance, more relaxed than other West Maui areas
• Cons: older properties and furnishings
• Best For: Savvy, value-minded travelers or families who want a good grocery store close at hand and don’t need to be in the center of activity

Kapalua
• Type of accommodations: resorts, million-dollar private homes, upscale condos
• Setting: beachfront, resort community
• Weather: Sunny year-round, humid, cool nights, semi-frequent clouds and downpours
• Travel times:

1 hour ten minutes to Kahului Airport

5 minutes to the beach

2 hours 55 minutes to Haleakala National Park

2 hours 55 minutes to Hana

• Pros: Outstanding beaches and views, seclusion, numerous resort-hosted festivals, superior restaurants, golf, and shops nearby
• Cons: Expensive, remote
• Best For: Golf champions, foodies, scuba divers, honeymooners seeking superior accommodations and misty, moonlit strolls. (Think Catherine and Heathcliff in Hawaii.)
