Auwe!

Dec. 11, 2007 (4070 views)

You will hear this expression often in Hawaii. It has many meanings including, but not limited to ... "ouch" -- "yikes" -- "shame on you" -- and sounds a lot nicer than swear words. Here is a brief list for Auwe!Auwe fo not washing hands (with soap) after bathroom... you know who you are.Auwe fo not using deodorant or antiperspirant. Yeah, it's natural, but so is dead-rotten fish... and who wants to smell that.Auwe fo leaving da shopping cart in da middle of the aisle when...

A Plethora of Potholes!

Dec. 10, 2007 (2575 views)

Maui County just came through an incredible storm system. Winds are normally out of the North (trade winds), but when the winds shift from the South (Kona winds), the weather can get really weird. As sure as the blue sky and sun returns after such rain storms, so is the guarantee of potholes galore on our roads. Potholes may be too gentle a term for many of our roads... canyons and gulches may be more appropriate. Driving during and after such rain storms can be a complicated and dangerous...

Recent Massive Waves and The Weather

Dec. 6, 2007 (4572 views)

Rain. Lots of it. For the past week or so Maui has been through torrents and torrents of rain. A large storm system passed/is passing over Maui and it has brough a massive amount of continuous rain. At some points during this storm visibility was not only ZERO but my windshield wipers simply could not keep up. I had to pull off to the side of the road and wait it out. I don't exactly have crappy windshield wipers either. They are perfect and my windshield is Rain-X'd. Spooky! Wind speeds were also...

I, Surfer. I, Hypocrite

Nov. 29, 2007 (3279 views)

I hear it all the time. I hear sufers preaching their "righteous views" to other people. Stupid. They're usually hypocrites. I pride myself on being on being as objective and open-minded as possible and yes, I too am sometimes a hypocrite but aren't we all? If you said no then chances are you just proved it to yourself :p But hey, at least you might now realize it! That's a good thing! What I notice about many surfers and their elitist (yes, ...

Complainers

Nov. 26, 2007 (3380 views)

There are tremendous amounts of things that people do which slows the entire process of driving down. Things like going up a hill for example. I follow people on Kaahumanu highway and notice the same thing eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverday. When the angle of the road starts getting steeper as we go up, the speed of the cars ahead of me drops about 15-20mph which is below the posted limit. I cannot stand going up Kaahumanu Avenue doing 21mph. Drives me nuts! Pun intended....

Allergies - Maui and Me

Nov. 23, 2007 (4826 views)

Allergies: We all hate 'em. For most of my life I've prided myself on not having "allergies" as people call them. Despite the fact that I am supremely allergic to shellfish and crustaceans, I have not had any of the typical "allergies" that people often complain about. Until recently.Over the past year or so I've noticed that I've been getting what I can best describe as Hay Fever and I'm not the only one. Some other people that i've talked to also explained to me...
