Gotta Love Lavender

I had my doubts. The road to the Alii Kula Lavender Farm takes you up a steep road, through a cow pasture (yes through it) and just as you're wondering if you're lost, you see the small parking sign and breathe a sigh of relief.

When you get out of your car, it hits you - the fresh air, the delicate scent of lavender, and stunning views. This is one of my favorite spots when I need to get away from the tourist bustle - you can take a tour of the grounds, or just walk around, find a unique spot hidden in the garden and watch the clouds go by. You can pick up something truly unique at the gift shop (where else can you buy Lavender Salt?), and the cafe offers tea and lunch.

Awesome Scent; Friendly Staff

I brought my mother in law there when she came here to visit from Connecticut. It's a wonderful place to go!

Lavendar Farm is AMAZING !!!

Ali'i Chang and the staff are the most personable hosts - the kids loved them; the feeling was so much Aloha Spirit, warm, welcoming, just salt of the earth type folks. There is a Japanese garden, oriental antiques and Buddha’s, a variety of thoughfully placed object d’art du jardin plus plants. We heard they do sunset at the lavendar farm with music - with those views that would be phenomenal. There is also a tiny boutique shed tucked into the gardens which sells every manner of lavender infused lotion, salve and jam, eye pillows, pillow liner, wreaths, wands for bringing relaxation to all corners of your life.

As we were told on the highly informative tour of the farm [took about 1 hour - do wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a light jacket] that lavender loves this upcountry climate and soil. Ali`I had worked for Hana’s Protea Farm before he bought this former Protea Farm in Kula. Drought made Protea farming unappealing, but the popularity of lavender as a cash crop with over 27 varieties, that actually thrives here, is working out well. The lavendar crops apparently even helped to rejuvenate some of the failing Protea plants. They make good companions in this lovely spot.

You can reserve your spot to enjoy tea or a lovely lunch here made with all things lavendar -- there was seared shrimp on delicately seasoned slaw, tea, scones, Kula greens with lavender/tarragon/rosemary dressing & accented with crispy sweet wonton slivers with herbs de Kula (lavender, rosemary, sage, sea salt) as seasoning; also lemonade tinted with the flower.

Warning - may not be easy to find, so follow the website directions carefully. Watch for Waipoli Lane and keep going all the way up. Too easy to miss the landmark, down that winding road, so quiet with just cattle grazing as company; lots of eucalyptus lining the road. And your ears may start popping like crazy as you head straight up Haleakala. But oh wow -- the vistas out to both coasts of the Valley Isle.

Amazingly beautiful and peaceful

The Kula Lavender Farm is an amazing place to visit. The temperature is very cool (maybe too cool for the local people at times) as it is high on the mountain. I suggest bringing a jacket or light rain gear as the rain sometimes sweeps in rather suddenly. The views of Maui are fantastic! And yes, the lavender farm and flower gardens are exceptionally beautiful. This is a place for nature and scenic lovers, don't expect to have other activities or entertainment. It is peaceful, quite, and relaxing. The drive to the location is a bit odd, through narrow streets past residences, up at a seventy-degree angle at times (I suggest some kind of SUV to make the trek). But the trip is definitely worth it! They also have a small gift shop with restroom facilities, product made from lavender, and simple snacks for purchase. Don't forget your camera, there are no restrictions on picture taking.

Treat for your senses

I've love going to the lavendar farm. The location and beauty of the place is an experience you can repeat over and over and never get tired of. It's a treat for your senses and don't we all deserve to pamper ourselves every now and then!
