The Old Lahaina Luau takes great pride in presenting an authentic Hawaiian luau. An evening of traditional Hawaiian cuisine, music, cultural dances and island crafts, that will acquaint you with the myths & legends of the Hawaiian Islands. Dancers perform only Hawaiian hula dancing in contrast to the Polynesian revues performed elsewhere. This luau is located beachfront in Old Lahaina Town. Included is an all-you-can-eat buffet and open bar.
My family and I have been to this luau twice and it is amazing.
When you arrive you are greeted at the entrance and presented with a beautiful lei and a drink, either alcoholic, or non-alcoholic - your choice. You are then escorted to your table, but it would be a shame if you remain there as there are crafts and activities happening all around the grounds. You also have the opportunity for professional sunset photos during this time. However, this luau allows photography and videography, so you can take pictures of whatever you would like on your own, too. You have the option of purchasing your professional photos at the end of the evening.
One of the highlights of the pre-dinner activities is the unearthing of the kalua pig. Kalua is a traditional Hawaiian cooking method that utilizes an imu, or underground oven. The word kalua literally means "to cook in an underground oven" and also describes the flavor of food cooked in this manner.
Once they unearth the kalua, they start the buffet. They have 4 areas serving at once, so the lines move efficiently and swiftly. Drinks can be ordered at anytime through your waiter, or you can get them from the open bar.
Once dinner has concluded the lights dim and the show begins. The show tells the history of the Hawaii, and the amazing costumes and beautiful dances make this a night to remember.
The cost is pricy, but the entire evening is top notch and well worth the money. Lahaina is warmer than other areas of the island, so although you are right on the water, it tends to be quite warm on the grounds, so dress light and comfortable.

I haven't visited the other Luaus to compare, but this was really fun. The hula and fire-dance show was great, they even pulled some people on-stage to do the hula (watch-out if you sit in front or are a really loud person). The buffet tasted good with teriyaki steak, grilled shoyu chicken (they did run out of the grilled chicken and many had to wait), kalua pig, poi, lomi salmon, poke, haupia, water and fruit punch, open-bar (you pay extra). Remember, it IS a buffet and you CAN go back for more, although they won't encourage you to do so. It was kinda expensive (we had a special group-rate), but there are deals via activity vendors.
