Molokini & Lanai Snorkel Cruise
One of Pacific Whale Foundations best trip is definitely the Molokini/ Lanai Trip. I finally went out on the tour, when I had out of town guest visiting. The crew was friendly, which started the day off right. We headed out to Molokini on a perfect day, which the captain said the visibility was over 140 feet that day, which felt like being in an Olympic size pool, in the middle of the ocean. Molokini is a great place for 1st time snorkelers and Pacific Whale Foundation has life guards on duty, along with noodles, and other flotation devices. Free lessons are also available.
I entered the crater via water slide to let the kids in me come out and they are a lot of fun. We had a nice continental breakfast on the way to Molokini and we were able to snorkel for over an hour. My friends absolutely loved this tour, and Molokini.
We were off to Lanai, and the water was calm. It took us about an hour and 15 minutes to make it to Lanai, from Molokini. As we entered Manele bay, on Lanai, we had 40 spinner dolphins enter our area, and we would have snorkel with the dolphins, but they got scared off from the noise of guests entering the water.
The coral was actually nicer and more colorful off of Lanai. We were the only boat there at the time, and even though we docked in water about 50 feet deep, once you swam towards shores the coral and fish were plentiful. This is an excellent trip, and although we were out for 6 ½ hours, it was a wonderful day, and the best snorkeling experience my friends have ever had. I also had the rare experience of swimming with the Dolphins in the wild. I was told this only happens a few times a year, but I was on a natural high for several days.
The Molokini/ Turtle town, is probably better suited for really young children, and people with limited swimming experience, because of the deeper water at lanai, but it's hard to beat this trip, for it's value, quality and overall snorkeling experience.
