Good Breakfast Here

On our way to Hana, we tried this place for brunch. Really good food here. I was surprised for such a little out of the way restaurant. We will be back before we leave Maui.

Great hidden restaurant

This weekend we tried Paulwela cafe for the first time after finding it on this site. We have lived in Haiku for years and never knew this place was here.

We had a Sunday brunch and all the dishes were very tasty. They had two specials, eggs benedict (my favorite) and belgian waffles (my son's favorite). The pastries looked terrific but we were too full to try them so will back again for sure.

You can sit inside or out in the great Haiku weather. Even though this cafe seems hidden away in the tules, there sure are a lot of people finding and keeping this secret. I do recommend Pauwela.

Another great breakfast

We went back. Part of what we love about Maui is getting to know the local people and the folks at Pauwela Cafe are the best. We decided to go out early for breakfast and I think I had the best espresso ever... at least since the first time I was there...I didn't realize they actually grow the coffee in Kula at their uncle's coffee farm...and then roast it locally and then grind it for each cup fresh...unreal...my wife had a smoothie that she said was perfect...can't recommend this place enough.

Pauwela Cafe is Maui style

I love this place. We stumbled on it by accident on our way to Hana. We had picked up a hitchhiker who wanted to be dropped off at "The Cannery" in Haiku and we decided to explore...it's only 1 minute from Hana Hwy up E. Kuiaha...but it is so Maui. A local chef has a top menu with excellent salads and sandwiches for cheap. We had an espresso and it was perfect. While we were eating we saw a blend of people I have never seen before...classy,funky, European, carpenters, windsurfers, locals, old Japanese, hippies...it was cool.
