Complainers
There are tremendous amounts of things that people do which slows the entire
process of driving down. Things like going up a hill for example. I
follow people on Kaahumanu highway and notice the same thing
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverday. When the angle of the road starts getting
steeper as we go up, the speed of the cars ahead of me drops about 15-20mph
which is below the posted limit. I cannot stand going up Kaahumanu Avenue doing
21mph. Drives me nuts! Pun intended. The reason this happens is because
people are zoning out and fail to compensate (with their gas pedal!) for the
ascent. Not only is this lame but it makes your car (at that point) have
horrible gas mileage. Your car or truck or whatever needs to be in the correct
power-band at all times for optimum performance and gas mileage. I hear cars
bogging and torque converters constantly converting torque while their auto-trannys
fight to find a proper gear. You may not hear it........but I do : )
"Yeah but brah, the pali traffic!" Again, it's people that cause
that, not the pali, not the roads or amounts of cars. It's people. Every time
the road to Lahaina is all messed up, There's an accident, or someone's trying
to turn onto the beach or there's a jackass driving a backhoe on the friggen
road from Maalaea to Lahaina (I've seen it - Jackasses), etc. If everyone went
at least the speed limit, it would flow at that rate. Both ends of that road be
it the Lahaina end and the Maalaea end can accommodate for a constant flow with
the traffic light causing very little congestion. I have studied this for over
20 years. No one's going to bring better points. People cause traffic.
When you complain about traffic, you are complaining about a problem that you
yourself are most likely a part of the problem. I know I am. I am not
perfect. I do some of those things. But there's a difference. I only complain
about traffic to use as excuses for being late for things : ). I don't
rant.....and...uh...rave?...about...it? DAMN. Just did. *sigh* Oh well moving
on.
THE RACE WARS
Too many haoles? Too many flips? Too many Japs? Too many coconut climbers? Too
many mokes? People here complain about everyone else's race. C'mon. What
the hell's up with all the racism. Why do people from Japanese descent talk so
much crap about the white folks? Why do Tongans hate on the Samoans so much?
Why do Hawaiians hate on everyone even themselves? Why do Filipino folks hate
on everyone else accept the white
folks? It just doesn't make sense. I don't care what you are, where you
come from or what history you have.
No one has the RIGHT to be racist. Anywhere. Well Chris Rock is probably the
only exception in the entire world. Everyone can kick his ass and his
really funny so no one really cares :p
But everyone does have the right to learn, to understand and become part of
solutions and not problems.
TOO MANY HEADS
I hear all the time from other surfers and especially, posers: "too many
kooks in the water, I don't wanna go out". Does that make sense?
"I cannot stand surfing on Maui; there are just always too many people
that I cannot get any waves!" Well, I can. I dunno what
other people's problems are but even at Honolua when there's 275,742 people
out, I can still get waves (like 2 in 3 hours lol). TRY GOING TO O'AHU!
You won’t make it to the parking lot! :p It's not about how much
people are out there but how experienced and how cool you are. When I’m out and
having a blast, I will let others have waves if I see them not getting that
many. Share the fun ya know? It's not all about you and if you think it is then
you have and will continue to have all the oh-so-fun related problems that will
accompany you. Why is it that all the people that complain about "not
enough aloha spirit" are the same folks that area always complaining to
the Maui News about basically everything else? COMPLAINERS: The Aloha spirit
does not exist for people that are not willing to give it.
THE SUPER FERRY
This is a huge LMAO situation. People are complaining about it, making
stuff up, making mountains out of mole hills and for what? It is probably because
everyone else is doing it. No one has any valid points. I'm all for doing the
right thing and what people are complaining about definitely is NOT right. GROW
UP. Learn things. "oh noes, they are not getting an environmental
impact study. what are for us to do??" I'll tell ya. You shut the
hell up, noob. Here's why. Do any of those large cruise ships that come
into the harbor have to do it? Newp. Does the navy have to do it when they
constantly use the channels around Maui for their exercises? I see the
Destroyers and Attack subs doin’ it a lot. Newp! Probably not! What about
all the damned fishing and tourist boats. Do any of their owners have to get
that done? They are the MOST dangerous to the whales. *AHEM* some tour
companies have slashed whales by getting too close. Kthx. FAIL. And you
know why? They were too close and going too fast. Big vessels are slower
and also, have far more advanced sonic emitters/receivers aka SONAR. They'll be
able to see a whale from far away and adjust their courses accordingly.
Don't you people think about that? What bandwagon are you going to be joining
next week? The People of Maui Against Cheetos? YOU BETTER NOT. I LOVE
CHEETOS. I digest : )
Granted that since state money is involved, they are required to eventually get
an EIS done HOWEVER, do they do this every time a new major airline wants to
set up camp in Hawai’i’s international airports? Do they do environmental
impact studies before every major bowl game at the STATE RUN Aloha Stadium? No.
Why don't people complain about those situations? Eh? Anyone got a valid
excuse? No. Nobody has a single one.
I don't know what's going on anymore. I wrote too much and I am completely
lost. I probably should go poopies now.
Back from the poopies!
Anyway, There's a lot of other silly arguments that people make.
* Camping Sites: "The ferry will bring so many
campers to Maui because there's not enough camping sites on O'ahu and we'll be
taken over." HAHA!!! You know that new store that always pops up and
you're itching to go to it but once it opens and after about 2 months, you're
over it? Yeah : ) I don't know about you but I love camping so much that
I'm going to fly to another island to get a permit to go camping then fly back
and plan a camping trip which I have to drive my truck onto a boat and cruise
for a couple hours, get off, then drive to a camp site with choke other people
that are already there (houselessfolks!) Then pack all that stuff up, drive
back to the boat, pay that cost and wait another couple hours and get off the
boat then go home and unpack all the junk. Sounds like a blast. Better not camp in someone's domain, though.
You might be sorry :p
* Fishing: Kind of the same as above. From what I
hear, O'ahu's fishing situation isn't that great and they all want to come to Maui
to Fish. Get real. "No mo fish!" is just an excuse for being a noob
at fishing. I know. I Have fished for ten years and have caught ONE FISH ON
MAUI. I am a noob. I think some folks from O'ahu will come here and do those
things but mostly because it's a new adventure. The allure does wear off and
going back to the way things were is usually the result.
* Invading Species: Invading Species of what? Idiots?
The SuperFerry has brought them out it seems and BEFORE it even set sail! Just read the paper and the people's comments!
Cruise Ships, All the Planes that fly in, Shipping (young bros, matson
containers, etc) are all contributors of "Invading Species". I
don't understand how adults can think like spoiled children. You're adults! USE
your brain and assimilate information. Don't just read "Da Pepah",
get drunk and talk story about these things with your uncle and his friends
down by the river and ask Aunty Noe to bring us all lomi lomi salad again
instead of tako this time. Shhiiiiiii.
* Alcohol on the Ferry: "yeah but people going be
drinking on da ferry so when they come here they going be all drunk cause
accident, yeah?". Okay, Yeah. Just like people fly in, just like
people from the cruise ships, just like well, PEOPLE ON MAUI. I guarrantee that
there are 10x more people that live on Maui who are drunk on the road than
there is going to be drunks from da boat. Drinking and driving is a personal choice (a very BAD one)
and not the fault of an inanimate object like a BOAT. Here’s an idea: how
about we just ban alcohol altogether. That would solve ALL the drunk driving
problems. That's a MUCH better solution. "Nah how we going
partaaaay?" Exactly, champ. Deal with it.
There's much more but I am stressed for time.
People complain. It's a fact of life but instead of complaining, why not try to
help solve the issue or at least, help promote awareness via positive venues
and not by writing on your stupid busted SUV "SINK THE FERRY" (for example).
You know how dumb that makes you look? Instead of complaining to the
newspaper which obviously prints the most ridiculous of letters to the editor
or being an e-thug tough-guy ranting on the internet............which
is.....exactly...what I am doing (DAMMIT), contact those that you may have
helped put into office(s), coordinate things and get things rolling. I myself
am so content with Maui, the island I was born on, that I am happy to just be
here. I know I’m going to have to move away someday to perhaps New York City
or who knows (I would like to have seen Montana) so I definitely do not
take this wonderful place for granted. In my opinion, It’s too late for people
or our age groups and even most of our teens but when I do have children and
hopefully I do, I will teach them to be open, objective, kind, star trek nerds,
kung fu experts, surfers, and intelligent. That’s what I hope anyway. They might turn out to be insane hose-beasts.
Who knows :p
Ok this rant is pau.
