I, Surfer. I, Hypocrite

Nov. 29, 2007 (3321 views)

I hear it all the time. I hear sufers preaching their "righteous views" to other people. Stupid. They're usually hypocrites. I pride myself on being on being as objective and open-minded as possible and yes, I too am sometimes a hypocrite but aren't we all? If you said no then chances are you just proved it to yourself :p But hey, at least you might now realize it! That's a good thing! What I notice about many surfers and their elitist (yes, ...

Complainers

Nov. 26, 2007 (3410 views)

There are tremendous amounts of things that people do which slows the entire process of driving down. Things like going up a hill for example. I follow people on Kaahumanu highway and notice the same thing eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverday. When the angle of the road starts getting steeper as we go up, the speed of the cars ahead of me drops about 15-20mph which is below the posted limit. I cannot stand going up Kaahumanu Avenue doing 21mph. Drives me nuts! Pun intended....

Allergies - Maui and Me

Nov. 23, 2007 (4851 views)

Allergies: We all hate 'em. For most of my life I've prided myself on not having "allergies" as people call them. Despite the fact that I am supremely allergic to shellfish and crustaceans, I have not had any of the typical "allergies" that people often complain about. Until recently.Over the past year or so I've noticed that I've been getting what I can best describe as Hay Fever and I'm not the only one. Some other people that i've talked to also explained to me...

Public School Locker Searches

Nov. 2, 2007 (6415 views)

The Board of Education voted in favor of allowing student locker searches, pending public hearings and the approval of the Governor. The intent is to help reduce the amount of drugs and weapons on campuses. The ACLU threatened a lawsuit if the Board included language which would have allowed school administrators to search with or without reason, so the BOE approved language which allows searches only if there is reasonable suspicion. Hawaii's school campuses are open, unlike the...

Missing Home

Oct. 29, 2007 (2071 views)

Right now I'm in Oregon going to college but I do miss Maui. I miss the food the weather and the people. We needed to find a blog of something that interest us for my writing class. I choose this particular blog because it talks about the fun things to do on Maui, the issues that the island faces, and how it is the best island to go to if you just want to relax. The one thing I miss about Maui, is the food. I miss eating Komoda's, Da Kitchen, Koho's, Makawao Steak House. I also miss the beaches and...

ALOHAlloween on Maui

Oct. 28, 2007 (2106 views)

Last Friday night we went to my kids' school's Halloween Family Fun Night. After the costume parade an d trick or treating in the campus, we were treated with a fun Hula/Tahitian Dance. After they danced, they invited the audience to join them and that's when the kids started doing their own version of the Tahitian dance. Only in Hawaii will you find such ALOHAlloween celebration :). ...

Funding Our Public Schools

Oct. 19, 2007 (2233 views)

The Honolulu Advertiser is reporting that the State Board of Education voted to implement a new "sliding scale" formula to allocate funds for public schools beginning next school year. The news reports the percentage of dollars to be lost or gained per school. A more accurate measure is to report how much money each school currently receives, and will receive, PER CHILD it services. While this new formula seeks to minimize financial loss to smaller schools, it also minimizes the financial...

Dictator English

Oct. 12, 2007 (2277 views)

Is it just me or does anyone else see anything wrong with Sen J.Kalani English’s comments in the Mauinews. He thinks that supporters of the superferry are annoying because they are sending emails expressing their support of the ferry.Seems strange, an elected representative has the opinion that residents of Hawaii, the same residents that he is supposed to represent are annoying because they express their opinion. What would he prefer, we all shut up and let...
