Don't complain about the harbor expansion you idiots.

Jan. 25, 2008 (4291 views)

Last night a the meeting at cameron center, I heard all the idiots come out of the woodwork. The selfishness of all the people that were against the harbor expansion was just so comical. The reason that the state wants to expand the harbor is for SAFETY REASONS and to ASSIST againsts Maui's ever-so-increasing cost of living.1) The Harbor is being utilized more and more each year. That is a fact and that is not something that is going to change. The more people have babies and the more...

This past week, the new Hawaii Superferry transported additional Hawaii National Guard troops and equipment to Maui to assist in the cleanup of our most recent rain storms (read stories here and here). Where does Hawaii Football Go From Here?

Jan. 2, 2008 (3912 views)

Dissapointed... frustrated.. infuriated... and that was just what we felt toward Oceanic Time Warner Cable for experiencing an outage during the most significant football game in Hawaii history. The Star Bulletin is reporting a tree fell in Kalihi that damaged some cables (read the article here), or vadalism as the Honolulu Advertiser reports (read...

Is Hawaii Football The REAL DEAL?

Dec. 31, 2007 (3136 views)

Here we go... the big game is here and all preperations have been made. Despite a perfect 12-0 season, the doubters and "talking heads" still question the validity of Hawaii's appearance in the Sugar Bowl. Yes, Hawaii's schedule of opponents this year have not been top notch... but who could have predict how strong our opponents would be when the schedule was created? Who knew that Washington would have a less than stellar year? And was it Hawaii's fault that Michigan pulled out (after coughing...

Twas The Night Before Georgia…

Dec. 27, 2007 (3087 views)

I found this online written by a Teri Wakuza.  I hope she doesn't mind it being shared with you...I composed this Christmas card and attached it to my Christmas present this year - signed UH footballs. People kept telling me I should send it to the paper so here it is: “Twas The Night Before Georgia…” All through the season, the critics said, “No.” But Hawaii fans cheered, “Go Warriors, Go!” We beat Northern Colorado...

Hawaii Democrats Don't Want Your Vote

Dec. 13, 2007 (3303 views)

The Honolulu Advertiser is reporting that the Hawaii Democratic Party wants to limit primary elections voting on the Democratic ticket to card carrying Democratic party members only (see the article here). The article states about 20,000 of the State's more than 662,000 registered voters belong to the Democratic party, which is roughly 3% of all registered voters. The Democratic party has been the dominant party...

Auwe!

Dec. 11, 2007 (4091 views)

You will hear this expression often in Hawaii. It has many meanings including, but not limited to ... "ouch" -- "yikes" -- "shame on you" -- and sounds a lot nicer than swear words. Here is a brief list for Auwe!Auwe fo not washing hands (with soap) after bathroom... you know who you are.Auwe fo not using deodorant or antiperspirant. Yeah, it's natural, but so is dead-rotten fish... and who wants to smell that.Auwe fo leaving da shopping cart in da middle of the aisle when...

A Plethora of Potholes!

Dec. 10, 2007 (2610 views)

Maui County just came through an incredible storm system. Winds are normally out of the North (trade winds), but when the winds shift from the South (Kona winds), the weather can get really weird. As sure as the blue sky and sun returns after such rain storms, so is the guarantee of potholes galore on our roads. Potholes may be too gentle a term for many of our roads... canyons and gulches may be more appropriate. Driving during and after such rain storms can be a complicated and dangerous...

Recent Massive Waves and The Weather

Dec. 6, 2007 (4627 views)

Rain. Lots of it. For the past week or so Maui has been through torrents and torrents of rain. A large storm system passed/is passing over Maui and it has brough a massive amount of continuous rain. At some points during this storm visibility was not only ZERO but my windshield wipers simply could not keep up. I had to pull off to the side of the road and wait it out. I don't exactly have crappy windshield wipers either. They are perfect and my windshield is Rain-X'd. Spooky! Wind speeds were also...
