Beaches
Maluaka Beach, Makena
Hiding behind the Westin Maui Prince Hotel is Malauka Beach. With hard to find parking lots at both ends, it may be one of the better "hidden" spots on the island. Malauka provides a nice grassy area, picnic tables, and public restrooms and showers. The Maui Prince concession stand and beach rental is also conveniently located just off of the beach.
La Perouse Bay
Located at the very end of Makena Alanui Road in South Maui, La Perouse Bay is part of the Ahihi-Kina'u Natural Area Preserve and is the site of Maui's most recent volcanic activity in 1788. Four-wheel drive is recommended for access. A great location for snorkeling when the winds are calm.
Palauea Beach Park, Wailea
Palauea Beach is located just south of the Kea Lani Hotel. This is a great beach for snorkeling and scuba diving where you'll find shallow caves and crevices, and lava arches. The area is populated with reef fish, and turtles. Often small white tipped reef sharks and sometimes an eagle ray will swim through the area.
Poolenalena Beach
Bordering Makena and Wailea is Poolenalena Beach. This half-mile of gently sloping shoreline is perfect for swimming. The lava rock formations at each end are ideal for snorkeling. Showers are located near the South entrance of the beach.
Hanakao'o Beach Park
AKA "Canoe Beach" this is part of the long stretch of sand known as Kaanapali Beach, but you won't find hotels or condos fronting the shoreline at Hanakao'o. Do expect to find canoes -- several canoe racing clubs use the park. Facilities include picnic tables, barbeque grills, restrooms and showers.
Kaanapali Beach
Kaanapali, HI
The beach is the reason for the resort. Much of this gorgeous three mile stretch of sand is lined with hotels and condominiums, but it's a great beach just the same, with spectacular views of the islands of Lanai and Molokai, sailing, and sunsets.
Oneuli Beach, Makena
Made from the dark cinders of past volcanic eruptions, Oneuli Beach sand is dark, and will get hot in the sun. Footwear is recommended. This beach is a great place for snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming and fishing. Kayaks can also be easily launched.
Kanaha Beach Park
Kanaha is one of the premier Wind and Kite surfing beaches in the world. Breath-taking views of the West Maui Mountains and ‘Îao Valley await visitors, a swim, a picnic in the shade of the tall trees flanking the beach, or game of beach volleyball can be enjoyed as well. Street signs along Amala Place point the way: the beach is within walking distance of Kahului Airport and easily-accessible from Hâna Highway (36) with ample parking available.
Olowalu Bay
Honoapiilani Highway
Lahaina, HI
Lahaina, HI
With plenty of coral and reef fish, Olowalu Bay is great for snorkeling or diving. The bay reaches approximately 25 feet deep, with the outer reaches of the bay containing lots of sea turtles. There are no facilities except for the Olowalu General Store, parking is available along side the highway.
Kamehameha Iki Park (505 Front Street)
If you're staying in Lahaina, this is a convenient park to take a quick dip. Picturesque near the harbor, and with a shower, though the lawn is not usually in good shape.
