Cafe O'Lei Wailuku
Fans of Café O'Lei's locations in Napili (Fish and Poi), central Maui (The Dunes at Maui Lani) and Kihei (above the Rainbow Mall) will be delighted to learn the Pastulas have opened yet another outlet in Wailuku. Up until now Central Maui has been somewhat lacking in a variety of enticing lunchtime venues, which makes this newbie to Maui's dining scene cause for celebration.
Housed in the first floor of the revitalized Harry and Jeannette Weinberg building on Market Street, there is something especially enticing about the feng shui and ambiance of the restaurant with its gleaming hardwood floors and elegant Asian antiques. Choose a table in the cozy duel-level room or push your luck and snag a seat at an al fresco table on the side lanai where a decidedly urbane cache offers diners protection from the breezes and shade from the sun.
The appealing atmosphere seems to lend new zest to Café O'Lei classics such as seared ahi, mahimahi, tiger prawns, the famous Makawao beefburger, sandwiches, and a fabulous selection of salads (including my favorite with quinoa and roasted veggies.)
Whether you visit Café O'Lei for your midday repast or drop in before work or touring to savor their delicious breakfasts, you'll find moderate prices, high value, and huge portions that all add up to make Café O'Lei a winning choice.
