| ![]() ![]() Four half-hour video tapes of an ongoing children's series on books and reading has been made available for viewing at all Maui County Libraries by the Maui Friends of the Library. The series, titled Reading Magic, was produced by Harvey Janis at the Maui Community Television AKAKU studio. Kathy Turner directed and edited the series, which features Diane Ray as hostess. The videos are designed to assist parents in helping to motivate their children to enjoy books and reading. The first video is for infants and toddlers, with "Grandma" Alyce Haines, volunteer at the Kahului Library, as guest reader. The second video is for pre-school three and four year olds. It features Karen Bach, a previous Vice President of the MFOL, with her son, James, as well as other parents and children. The third video includes programs number three and four, and is for five to seven year olds. State Senator Roz Baker is a featured reader. Other readers include previous MFOL Board Directors Mary Helen Ivey, Andrew Bonfield, and Karen Bach. Also included are parents reading to their children. The fourth video features program five, and is geared towards eight to twelve year olds. The hostess for this video is Karen Bach, and it features a father and son reading in Hawaiian. Also, reading from her favorite book, is a young girl who is quite a good actress. Reading Magic videos are not available for sale, but may be borrowed from any of the Maui County Public Libraries.
