Actively Support Hawaii's Libraries The Hawaii State Public Library System needs your support now, more than ever before. It is the voice of the taxpayers that makes a difference, and there is strength in numbers. Write, fax, and/or email the Senators and Representatives of Hawaii and let them know how you feel. It is your tax dollars that pay for new library materials ... don't you feel that you should have a say in how that money is spent? If you are unsure of what to say, here is a sample letter to copy. Please make sure to include your title, name, mailing address, and phone number when contacting the legislators. Dear Senator/Representative: I am writing to ask you to do what you can to secure adequate funding for Hawaii's state libraries. Their situation is truly desperate. The library budget has been repeatedly cut year after year. Our libraries are under-staffed and their collections, in many cases, are badly out-of-date. The library is one of the few resources available to the public that is free of charge. It provides information, computer access, recreation, and is a safe after-school haven for our children. We need our libraries ... please help.
